Frequently asked questions
- What does the SEO score calculator measure?
- Five weighted pillars, all measured first-hand: on-page markup (25%), content quality (20%), content freshness (15%), technical health (25%) and link authority (15%). Freshness comes from the newest date the page itself declares — article:modified_time, dateModified in structured data, a <time> element or the Last-Modified header. Technical health blends markup checks with the response time and HTML transfer size measured during the fetch. Authority counts only referring pages ToolForge fetched and confirmed contain a live link to you; supply none and that pillar is excluded from the score rather than guessed.
- Why is there no domain authority or page authority number?
- Those are proprietary models owned by SEO data vendors, computed from private link indexes. Nobody can compute them for free, so ToolForge shows verified links it fetched itself instead of an invented score.
- How does the live SEO score work?
- You enter a public URL, ToolForge fetches that page server-side and reads its actual HTML. It scores twelve weighted signals — title and description length, single H1, canonical, HTTPS, mobile viewport, indexability, content depth, image alt text, internal linking, social preview tags and structured data — then reports each one with the exact value it found. Nothing is estimated.
- Where do the ranking positions come from?
- Each check runs your keyword as a live web search and reads the position of your domain in the top 10 results returned right then. It is a real observed position, not a modelled estimate, and if your domain is not in the top 10 the dashboard says so instead of inventing a number.
- How is a backlink verified?
- ToolForge fetches the referring page you added and looks for an anchor pointing at your domain in the response markup. If it is there the link is marked live and the anchor text plus rel attribute are shown; if the page is gone, blocked or no longer contains the link it is marked lost.
- Is my keyword and backlink data stored on a server?
- No. Tracked keywords and referring pages are saved in your own browser's local storage, and each check history stays there too. Clearing your browser data removes them, and nothing is tied to an account.
- How often should I check the dashboard?
- Re-check keywords weekly — daily checks mostly capture normal fluctuation. Re-run the live SEO score after every meaningful content or template change, and re-verify backlinks monthly.
- What score should I aim for?
- 80 or above means the fundamentals are in place. Below 55 usually means something structural is wrong: a missing viewport, a noindex directive, thin content or almost no internal links.
